Perched atop an elevated hillside in the idyllic northeast region of Corfu, Jamaja is a testament to architectural excellence and natural beauty. Having a plot where its stunning view was opposite to the natural light (north orientation of the plot) challenged the architectural team. Yet, having the plot’s terrain excavated and lowered from the back side, created a seamless dominant roof slab in parallel with the large glass surfaces on all sides allowed the natural sunlight to enter and what at first seemed a flaw turned into an advantage. This new blend of interior and exterior areas, all around, with the natural light drenching harmoniously the whole residence, allowing the Greek island breeze to enter, creates simple qualities, enough, to fully appreciate each space and each moment in this dominant yet peaceful residence.
